Water-wise lawn management

We had a very informative council meeting last night (3.26.24) led by Dr. Loren Giesler and Sarah Browning. I learned so much about lawn management and how to be water conscious. Here are some key points I jotted down:

  • Aerate 1-2 times per year (spring and/or fall)
  • Mow grass tall – no lower than 3”
  • Water deeply and infrequently
    • Grass only needs 1” water per week in spring and fall and 1.5” in summer
  • Run each zone for 15 min, then do it again the same day
    • This pushes the water deeper down to get to the deep root system

Council voted on first reading of an ordinance and a resolution regarding water conservation. Both were approved (two more readings to go).

  • Lawn watering will be allowed 2 times per week all year round, no watering between 10am-4pm, this is for lawn watering only
    • 1st & 2nd offense, will receive written warnings
    • 3rd offense, water disconnected & $200 reconnection fee
    • 4th and subsequent offenses, water disconnected & $400 reconnection fee
  • New sod permits will be allowed for 14 days. Permit is $50.
