WAVERLY, Neb. (KOLN) – Waverly City Council Member Abbey Pascoe has set her sights on the mayoral seat, formally announcing her candidacy on Thursday.

Serving as the current council president and representing Ward 2, Pascoe was elected to the position in Nov. 2022.

She said her campaign will prioritize inclusivity, innovation, and compassion with a commitment to ensuring that the voices of all residents are heard.

“With considerable enthusiasm and a profound dedication to our community, I formally declare my candidacy for the position of Mayor for the City of Waverly. Embracing the guiding principle of “Community First, Leadership Always,” I believe in prioritizing Waverly’s future through inclusivity, innovation, and compassion to shape a city that serves everyone,” Pascoe declared during her campaign announcement.

The mayoral position is one of three offices with vacancies for the 2024 Primary Election, including City Council Ward 1 and Ward 2.

The current mayor of Waverly is Bill Gerdes, elected to the position in 2020. Gerdes publicly stated he’s not running for re-election. The incumbent filing deadline is Feb. 15.
